Rules

Ready Room's ladders carry on from the clan ladders that ran Rogue Spear competition in the early 2000s, such as TeamWarfare League and ClanLadder.com. These rules keep their spirit, adapted to how Ready Room works. Anything not covered here is up to the ladder admins.

The basics
  • One account per person. No second accounts (smurfs) and no sharing. Playing ranked on someone else's account, or letting someone play on yours, is treated as cheating.
  • Your callsign is your name in the game. The app sets it when it launches Rogue Spear; don't change it during a ranked game. You can change your callsign once every 90 days.
  • Stock game only: the official patch, no mods, stock maps. Ready Room checks that every player's game files match the host's before a game launches.
  • Agree on anything non-standard before you start, in room chat, so there's a record. A rule both sides agreed to in chat beats the defaults below.
1v1 ladder
  • Join from the Ladders page. Ratings use Glicko-2: your rating is provisional for your first 10 games, and its uncertainty grows while you don't play.
  • Challenges: you can challenge players within 5 ranks or 200 rating points of you.
  • Answer within 48 hours. A challenge left unanswered counts as a forfeit. You get 3 free declines per rolling week; after that, a decline counts as a forfeit.
  • No farming: at most 2 rated matches against the same opponent per rolling week.
  • Play it in a Ranked room in the Ready Room app. Both players must be on the ladder, and the map must be in the season's map pool when it has one.
  • Seasons: when a season ends its final standings stay on the site and the next one starts straight away, with either a soft reset (everyone keeps half their distance from 1500) or a full reset.
Clan ladder
  • Entering: a clan leader enters the clan from the Ladders page. A clan needs at least 4 players to enter.
  • Leaders run it: they send and answer challenges and report results for the clan. Challenge range, response time, free declines and the weekly rematch limit work the same as on the 1v1 ladder.
  • Clan matches are 4 v 4 unless both clans agree to a different size before the match. Teams are always even.
  • Play it in a Ranked clan match room in the Ready Room app: it takes players from two clans with even sides, and both clans must be on the ladder. When the game starts it becomes the clans' ladder match (their accepted challenge, if they have one), and Ready Room records who played.
  • One clan per player. Everyone plays under their own callsign.
  • No ringers. Only your clan's members play for it, on their own accounts. New members wait 7 days before they can play ranked for the clan (the roster shows when).
  • The match format, disconnect and fair-play rules below apply to clan matches too.
Match format

The default for ranked matches. Both sides can agree to something else in room chat before the first round.

Game typeAdversarial: Survival for 1v1, Team Survival for clans
Round length5:00
A mapFirst to 3 round wins (best of 5 rounds). A round counts when the results screen says Mission Success.
A matchBest of 3 maps
MapsFrom the season's map pool. The challenged side picks map 1, the challenger picks map 2, and the side that lost map 2 picks a deciding map 3. No map twice in a match.
SidesSwap sides after each map.
InsertionsRandom
Death cameraFirst Person or Team Only. No third-person views.
UniformsMedium armor, and colors the two sides can tell apart (one camouflage, one solid color).
Weapons and gearEverything allowed. Every kit has a counter.
Tied roundReplayed

The host sets these in Rogue Spear's multiplayer setup before the game starts. If a setting was wrong, say so before the round ends; a finished round stands.

Scheduling and no-shows
  • Once a challenge is accepted, agree a time in Messages so there's a record.
  • 15 minutes late is a forfeit, unless the other side agrees to wait. The waiting side should screenshot the empty room and send it to an admin.
  • Reschedule only when both sides agree, before the agreed time. Once the first map has been played, the match can't be postponed.
Disconnects and crashes
  • In the first 10 seconds of a round (or while loading): the round is restarted.
  • After that: the round plays on and the dropped player counts as dead.
  • Getting back in: use Rejoin game in the lobby and come back between rounds. A team gets 15 minutes to bring back the player or a roster substitute. After that, the other side can agree to keep playing short-handed; otherwise the match is rescheduled.
  • The host's game crashes: relaunch and carry on from the score so far.
Reporting and disputes
  • Both sides report the score under Matches in the app. Matching reports confirm the result; conflicting reports open a dispute for an admin. If one side hasn't reported within 24 hours, the other side's report stands.
  • Evidence: for games played in a Ranked room, Ready Room keeps how long the game ran, whether both apps exchanged game traffic, and the round results from the game's results screens. Also take a screenshot of the final scoreboard and keep it for a week.
  • Raise problems with an admin, with evidence. Don't argue it out or accuse anyone of cheating in public chat; that can be sanctioned on its own.
  • Reporting a false score is cheating.
Fair play

Not allowed, ever:

  • Aimbots, wallhacks, radar or "show enemies" hacks, recoil or input scripts and macros.
  • Modified game files: skins (including bright "acid" skins), textures, scopes, crosshair overlays, edited configuration or constants files, and unofficial patches.
  • Exploits: getting under or outside a map, clipping into walls or objects, shooting or seeing through walls from a glitched position, and throwing grenades through roofs or walls.
  • Ghosting: watching the match as a spectator, or getting information from anyone who is. Dead players don't pass information to the living.
  • Spectators only with both sides' permission. No kicking or vote-kicking your opponents.
  • Deliberately lagging, dropping or crashing the game to gain an advantage.
Conduct
  • Respect the people you play. No hate speech, slurs, threats or harassment, in chat, messages, callsigns or clan names.
  • During a ranked match, keep all-chat to the match itself. A "gg" at the end goes a long way.
  • Don't spam #general or players' messages.
Penalties
  • Admins can give a warning, a chat mute, a ladder suspension or a ban, either temporary or permanent.
  • They can also void or reverse results, award forfeits and adjust ratings.
  • Cheating means a permanent ban. A clan whose members knew about it can be removed from the ladder.
  • Every admin action is recorded with a reason.
